Waxman to be sentenced in Philip fraud
Lawyers for a once-prominent Hamilton businessman are trying to convince a judge to give him a lesser sentence.
The Crown wants Robert Waxman to serve nine years, pay almost $18 million in restitution and a fine of more than $15 million. Waxman was convicted of carrying out several purchases and sales of copper on behalf of his former employer, Philip Services. Prosecutors argue Waxman shows no remorse and say he was driven by greed because he was already making more than $600,000 a year.
