Hamilton man, 83, found stabbed dead in home

Hamilton police are canvassing a neighbourhood in the lower central city after an elderly man was found dead in his home Tuesday night.

Neighbours on Stirton Street in Hamilton are in shock and frightened by what’s happened to their elderly friend.

Police wouldn’t say who made the call but when they arrived at number 55 just after 7 last night, they found George Washington Burnett, 83, dead with a knife in his neck.

Burnett lived alone.
Police have been talking to neighbours. One neighbour said his motion sensored backyard lights were flicking on and off Monday night – the last time police believe Burnett was seen alive.
So far police haven’t made any arrests and don’t have any suspects.
This is Hamilton’s second homicide of 2011.
