About one thousand people forced from their homes by the forest fires in northwestern Ontario still can’t return home.

The Ministry of Natural Resources says there were 25 new fires in the northwest Monday, raising the number of active fires to 131.

575,000 hectares of forest have been burned since the fires began.

More than 2,000 firefighters, including nearly 600 from outside Ontario, are fighting the blazes.
