Cause

A blaze that killed two volunteer firefighters in Listowel was accidentally caused by contractors.

The initial report from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office says contractors were repairing the roof of the Dollar Stop last month when flammable components inside caught fire.

The two men went into the building to make sure no one was inside, but were trapped when the roof collapsed.

30-year old Raymond Walker and 56-year old Kenneth Rae both died in the fire.

The Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating.
