Toronto Police Officers Not Charged with G-20 Offences

Ontario’s police watchdog has concluded no Toronto police officers committed a criminal offence when a man was injured while being arrested during G20 protests.

The Special Investigations Unit says “Canute Fernandes” fell to the ground, after being overrun by a crowd as police moved in on protesters last June.

Fernandes suffered a fractured arm and shoulder.

An initial investigation in November couldn’t determine whether the man’s injuries were caused by police or protesters.

But the SIU re-opened the case, after a video surfaced in February.

And the agency made an appeal for more witnesses to come forward.

The investigation has determined Fernandes’ injuries were not caused by police.
