Ministry of Health Investigation

Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin is investigating a decision made by the province’s Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

The Minisrty denied funding for the drug “herceptin” for breast cancer patients whose tumours are less than a centimetre in diameter.

Currently, funding is limited to patients whose tumours are larger than that.

Marin began his investigation after a complaint from a patient who was told her tumour was too small for the drug.
