The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the death of a 34-year-old Burlington man, who was shot to death Saturday night.

An eyewitness says he saw a man and a Halton Regional officer yelling and fighting with each other moments before the Burlington man was shot dead.

The SIU says police received a number of calls about a man driving erratically before he was pulled over going the wrong way on Walkers Line near Mainway on Saturday night.

Eyewitness Mark Zubchinsky says he saw an officer and the man outside their cars, yelling and aggressively grabbing at each other. The eyewitness says just before the shooting, the Burlington man became more aggressive and the officer pulled out his gun, took a few steps back and told him to calm down.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital.

The SIU is normally called into investigate incidents involving police, where someone has been seriously injured or has died.
