As of June 2012, you won’t be able to smoke in Hamilton parks, playgrounds, beaches or recreation fields.
Hamilton city council has approved a bylaw that will see outdoor rec areas become smoke-free.
Health promotion minister Margarett Best endorsed the city’s move:
“First of all let me congratulate the city of Hamilton in doing that. We certainly as you know have the smoke-free act in Ontario and we continue to be committed to the smoke free act.”
More than 50 Ontario municipalities have passed by-laws governing smoking in outdoor areas.
