Hamilton Police forensics team examine house in Singh disappearance

(Updated) Hamilton police are now focusing on one house in the investigation into the disappearance of a 19 year old from East Hamilton.
This comes one week after the case went from a missing person case — to one that involves homicide detectives.
Homicide and forensic investigators arrived at a house on the East Mountain last night.
They say that they will be there through the day Friday while the gather evidence. But they would not go into detail as to what they were looking for. We know there have been no arrests and still no sign of Harmanjit Singh.
Over the past 24 hours, the police have focused their attention on the house at 57 Hannon Crescent on the East Mountain. While it’s related to the disappearance of 19 year old Harmanjit Singh, according to neighbors, this is not the first time police have been here.
Josie Aubert: In August, something happened. There was a lot of police cars that were here in August.
Josie Aubert said that for the most part, the homes occupants kept to themselves. CHCH visited the area last week and spoke with a man named Elias who lives either on or near Hannon Crescent. Elias identified himself as a friend of Harmanjit and said that he is his only friend in the area.
Elias (last Thursday): “A lot of people are worried about him. He just went missing out of nowhere. I just hope he gets home safe and everything’s good with him, you know?”
Hamanjit Singh lives in the lower part of town on Violet Drive in Stoney Creek, several kilometers from Hannon Crescent. He works at Bell Pizza near Eastgate Square, where a missing poster hangs. Police say that it is a friend or associate who lives at 57 Hannon.
Police believe that Harmanjit Singh was in attendance here at the house at 57 Hannon the day before he disappeared but they are clear to point out that this is one avenue that they are following and they aren’t yet sure what happened.
Police say that while they may have been to the house before, the address at 57 Hannon is not one that was known to them. The case was transferred to homicide last week and tonight, members of the Singh family are coming to Hamilton in order to give a DNA sample. But lead investigator Detective Sergeant Joe Stewart says that collecting DNA does not mean that Harmanjit is dead: “It can also be used to identify where a person has been or how they have interacted in their environment.”
Singh went missing on October 27th, 16 days ago. The last person to hear from him was his girlfriend in the early hours of the day. He had told her that he was spending the night at a friend’s house. He is described as 5 foot 9 inches tall, with a medium build, and black hair.
Harmanjit’s Uncle Sonny Chahal said that the police are in constant contact with them. He said the police have executed multiple warrants. After, Uncle Sonny had this to say to Harmanjit: “If he’s out there listening to us, it is a humble request from his uncle and from his father. We want him to come home and come home to us safe, as soon as possible. Come home safe. We don’t care whatever he was involved in, and we don’t know if he was involved in anything. All we want is for him to come home safe. That’s it.”
