One to hospital in Hamilton shooting

One man has been taken to hospital after gunshots were fired in Hamilton’s north end Tuesday evening.
Many residents say they heard several loud bangs shortly after 7 o’clock.
The shooting happened just behind 437 James Street North in a townhouse complex just off of Ferrie.
Ferrie Street has been closed off to traffic by police for several hours between James and MacNab as they investigate.
They’ve also been searching Simcoe Street, doing an article search with the K-9 unit. Forensics have been here throughout the evening as well.
Hamilton police tell us one man was shot and taken to hospital but he is expected to survive. They were not able to tell us the extent of his injuries or even how many shots were fired. But neighbours in this townhouse complex tell us they heard multiple shots.
Dean Boothryod: “I was just sitting in my living room and I heard multiple gun shots out the back window. My son was the first to peek out the window. I told him to get away before I even realized what it could be. And I took a peek out the window after him and I didn’t see anybody in the area. So I’m not sure if it was just some kid having some fun or what.”
Bart Goddard: “I heard the sounds, it was multiple. It was like bang, bang, bang, bang — it was just not one bang. It waws rapid fire. (Where was the sound coming from?) Actually, when I woke up, the sound was coming from behind my apartment. And I went out back and that’s when I seen, I rode down there on my bike, I seen blood on the ground and I seen many people running away.”
Hamilton police Staff Sgt. Mike Cunliffe: “Right now, we’re interviewing witnesses and we’re going to try and interview the victim in the matter and hopefully we’ll gather some information that will help lead to an arrest.”
So far there have been no arrests. Police have not provided a suspect description at this time. They say it’s too early on in their investigation. Although they do say there is no danger to the public as it appears that everyone involved in the shooting knew each other.
