Sod turned for cargo terminal at Hamilton Int’l Airport

Construction has begun on the new shipping terminal at Hamilton International Airport.
The new 70,000 square foot facility will be built to accommodate the airport’s growing air freight business. The upcoming improvements will provide added benefits to local businesses, cargo carriers and freight shippers.
Federal public works minister Diane Finley announced the start of construction and the benefits of the upcoming changes.
“The new facility will include a secure customs area, refrigeration system to accommodate perishable items like flowers and fruits and vegetables, pharmaceutical items and a live animal centre.”
“As someone who has to fly out of here with a cat on board, it will also enable multiple trucks and have new cargo handling facilities. These facilities will expand the variety of goods that could be move through this airport.”
Finley says construction will create 50 jobs and once the terminal is complete, another 400 new jobs are expected. She says this investment will benefit the community now and for years to come.
