As the country continues to mourn the loss of Corporal Nathan Cirillo, several residents across the city held their own ceremonies on Sunday.

The pews at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King were filled for Sunday’s morning mass as residents remembered Cirillo.

The church held a moment of silence in his honour and recalled the finals moments of Cirillo’s life.

Members of the congregation say while Wednesday’s attack was tragic, they are inspired by the outpouring of support Canadians have showed.

One Hamilton resident is using the power of social media to help Cirillo’s family during this difficult time.

Kim Primeau hoped to raise over $1,000 and collect toys for Marcus.

Primeau, a mother herself, says the news of Cirillo’s passing resonated with her.

Meanwhile, family, friends and strangers continued to pay their respects at the shrine outside the John Weir Foote Armoury on James Street North.

Many say the didn’t know Cirillo or his family, but his story touched them and the rest of Canada.

Primeau surpassed her goal by Sunday evening with $1,600.

The money will be donated to a trust fund for Nathan Cirillo’s 6-year-old son Marcus.

The trust fund has been set up with TD Canada Trust.

The transit number is 2221 and the account number is 6391935.

This is the only authorized trust fund.
