Man killed in Stoney Creek QEW head-on crash

(Updated) Impaired driving charges have been laid in this morning’s fatal head-on collision on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Stoney Creek.
A 28 year old man, driving a Toyota Tundra collided head-on with a Buick, killing the car’s driver. Police have not released his name.
OPP sergeant Kerry Schmidt told CHCH News, “we have some independent witness who observed the (pick-up truck) travelling in the Toronto-bound direction in the Niagara-bound lanes.”
“If people were to get on the highway in the wrong direction, there are signs telling you that you are going the wrong way.”
Police had received a tip earlier this morning that a pick-up truck was travelling the wrong way on the QEW but by the time they got there, it was too late.
Emergency crews taped down the tarp before sending the Buick to another location to identify the man inside, while others swept away the broken pieces that remained after this tragic collision.
The pick-up driver was taken to Hamilton General Hospital with injuries but is expected to make a full recovery. “He is currently under arrest by the OPP, facing charges of impaired driving causing death.”
The highway was closed for 5 hours, causing massive back-ups on the QEW and South Service Rd.
