Small fire evacuates Hamilton’s Mountain View School

Students were evacuated after a small fire at Mountain View School in Hamilton Thursday.

Fire officials say it started on the stage in the gym.

It was discovered while students were outside during nutrition break.

Fire crews quickly put out the flames, but because of smoke, students were sent to neighbouring Eastdale Elementary School.

They were expected to remain there for the rest of the school day, but will return to the rear of Mountain View at the regular dismissal time.

The Hamilton Police Arson Unit is investigating.
