Hamilton Police name new deputy chief

(Updated) Hamilton Police have announced a new deputy chief.
Ken Weatherill, a 28 year veteran of the service, was promoted to the job today at police headquarters. He leaves his current post as superintendent in charge of the mountain station.
Weatherill was up against two other internal candidates and one from outside the service. He says one of his first priorities as deputy chief will be to focus on mental health issues.
“The main priorities for the immediate is to work with mental health those folks in crisis and to build strong relationships in our community.”
“Every day is a learning experience. 28 years ago when joined the police service I learned how to make my first arrest and every single day I have learned something new all those experiences will be things that I will be using to help me work through issues and to meet people and I look forward to the challenges in policing I am excited about what policing is bringing for the city of Hamilton in the future as we move forward.”
Weatherill takes over for Ken Leendertse who retired earlier this year.
