Chippawa home invasion

A 71-year old Chippawa woman and her 40-year old son were attacked by a pipe wielding intruder who broke into their home last night.
The intruder, disguised in a balaclava hit the 71-year old woman. She fell down the stairs. When her 40-year old son intervened.
He was then hit with the metal bar and then he fell down the stairs. The intruder just kept hitting the man and then he pulled out a gun and started firing rounds inside the house.
Neighbour Randy Smith happened to be outside talking to another neighbour when they heard what sounded like somebody being attacked: “We could hear yelling and screaming. People yelling for help. My friend went over and looked in the door and saw all the blood. His wife phoned police, 911. The guy ran outside. I went to stop him. And he shot me with a pellet gun a couple of times. (Did he hit you?) Oh yeah, Had my jacket on. I didn’t think he would attack. It was in my neighbourhood and you don’t do that.”
When Randy was shot with the pellet gun, he ran for his dog, a Belgian shepherd named Newton. He told Newton to get the guy. Newton ran after him and cornered him
down the street. And then Randy and the neighbour held him for police.
Twenty-five year old Fredrick Collette of Niagara Falls was taken into custody and charged. Collette and the victims know each other. The 71-year old woman has a number of staples in her head. Her son has more serious head injuries. He’s still in hospital. Thanks to Randy and Newton and the neighbour, that intruder is now in custody.
