Main Street Bridge delay

The damp weather this summer means the five month repainting of Welland’s Main Street Bridge is taking longer than planned.

As a result, the 71 metre long structure won’t be re-opening in time for next weekend’s Niagara Food Festival.

Organizers say they were preparing for that contingency, and are recommending festival-goers park at the Seaway Mall and ride the free shuttle bus.

Weather conditions have to be completely dry to allow the painters to do their work. They’ve lost 25 days so far because of the less than ideal conditions.

Right now the hope is to re-open the bridge by the middle of September.
