McMaster may play role in Pan Am Games

Hamilton may be playing a bigger role in the 2015 Pan Am Games.

McMaster University has confirmed that they are in talks with organizers of next year’s games to house some of the athletes who will be playing in Hamilton.

Tim Hortons Field, which is still under construction, will host Pan Am soccer during the two-week period.

The current plans have the 400 members of the 16 soccer teams commuting to and from the athletes village in Toronto, an estimated travel time of 90 minutes each way.

This morning, Gord Arbeau, who is the director of public relations at McMaster, confirmed that games organizers contacted the university. Arbeau added that the university is absolutely open to hosting the athletes and their support staff but at this time the talks are preliminary.

It’s believed that Pan Am officials have also been in touch with Mohawk College about using their facilities but Mohawk has not yet confirmed they too are in discussions to be part of next year’s games.
