Arrest in cancer charity box theft

Hamilton Police have recovered some of the money stolen from a Ride to Conquer Cancer dinner on Saturday.

During the event at the Hamilton Sheraton, a cash box with roughly $11,000 was stolen.

Police released a surveillance photo of a suspect yesterday, and within hours, made an arrest. They tracked down a suspect, and a female companion at a hotel downtown. They recovered the cash box and a portion of the money stolen.

Brian Ross Peebles, 52, of Mississauga faces a number of charges, including theft over $5,000.
