Hewson makes first court appearance

(Updated)
Two more charges have been laid, and police say there are more to come in the next few days, meaning 31-year old Sean Hewson of Ancaster is now facing a total of 18 charges stemming from allegations he sexually assaulted five teenage boys, while he was their sailing coach.
Hewson’s bail hearing was supposed to take place today but has been put over until Thursday. He appeared before the Justice of the Peace this afternoon wearing a dark grey polo shirt and glasses.
He is facing a long list of charges including sexual assault and sexual interference, and because his case was adjourned today, he’ll remain behind bars until at least Thursday.
Hewson’s family sat inside the Milton courthouse for hours, waiting to find out if he’d be granted bail.
Hewson is facing a total of 18 charges including 5 counts of sexual assault. Halton police say they’ll be laying more charges before his next court appearance, now that more complainants have come forward.
The charges stem from alleged incidents that complainants say took place during overnight sailing competitions between 2003 and 2008.
Once the allegations surfaced, several more organizations came forward identifying Hewson as a past or present employee.
He worked at Bronte Harbour Yacht Club at the time of his arrest and previously taught lifesaving courses at the YMCA.
Bronte Harbour has asked him to take a leave of absence, and is hosting a town hall meeting for concerned parents on Wednesday.
