Chief for a day

Five lucky grade six students got to feel what it’s like to be high-ranking Hamilton Police officers today.
The students were asked to write essays about what they would do if they were part of the command staff. Hamilton Police received the top three essays from about 17 schools. Of those, the top five were selected.
The winners attended Central Station this morning. They shared their ideas about what they would do if they were in charge.
“The street patrol for red lights. So put more cops because I’ve noticed a lot of people are running red lights and that’s causing bad accidents,” said Emma Giordano, a contest winner.
Fellow winner Oriana Ciraola shared her idea: “I would have officers like Officer Clark come to each school and introduce us to others who can help us when we don’t know where to go for help.”
The five winners were assigned various ranks. One was named chief, two were named deputies, and two were given the rank of superintendent.
