Niagara ice boom dismantling begins

Officials began dismantling the Niagara River ice boom on Tuesday.
It’s a series of floating steel pontoons anchored to the bottom of Lake Erie. A stable ice cover forms in front of the boom which allows water to flow towards the falls.
Considering the small amount of ice remaining on Lake Erie, the boom will be removed. It is owned and operated by New York Power Authority and Ontario Power Generation.
