Hundreds of children receive bikes

More than four hundred children are hitting the road this Easter weekend on brand new bikes thanks to a young man they’ll never have the chance to meet.

They got their new bicycles — and helmets and locks — last night in Hamilton as part of a program to honour Mike Chamberlain. The Mike’s Bikes Giveaway is in its third year. It was set up by Chamberlain’s family after he died back in 2010.

Mike had cycled all over the world, and wanted to make his hometown, Hamilton, a more bike friendly city. The bikes are the result of money raised from the Bike for Mike fundraising ride, which is coming up on Sunday, May 4.
