Wild weather on the way

After enjoying some of the warmest days we’ve had all year, we’re in for another weather surprise. It’s been a warm, but very windy, and at some points, wet day. That unsettled weather will continue overnight and into tomorrow and it’s also about to get much colder.
A portion of a roof collapsed onto a car at a gas station in Mississauga today. High winds were to blame and luckily no one was hurt.
The gusts were so powerful at West Street South and Main in Hamilton, they brought down trees, crashing them onto cars and snapping power lines.
By early afternoon mother nature unleashed another tool from her arsenal: pouring rain.
Today’s showers could become freezing rain overnight as a cold front approaches. However, one Hamilton hardware store wasn’t fooled by April and the recent warm temperatures.
“Salt and ice melt, we have snow brushes, just in case the weather gets a little bit hectic,” says Lennox Mitchell, manager of Home Hardware.
At Locke Street Tire and Automotive in Hamilton, shop owner Robert Bernacci says 40% of his services in the last week have been winter tire removal. People are sick of the cold but are they being premature?
“You don’t ever really know how our weather is going to be, having a good all-season tire that you run in the summer time will probably be able to take the next couple days of weather,” he says.
