4 Hamilton public schools evacuated after potential bomb threats

Four schools in Hamilton’s public board were evacuated Monday following potential bomb threats.
A spokesperson for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board says the threats were made toward Saltfleet District High School, Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School, Highview Elementary School and Mount Albion Public School.
Hamilton police were immediately notified and arrived at the schools.
“We have been in contact with the affected schools and school staff have not located anything suspicious,” says Hamilton police spokesperson Jackie Penman.
“We will continue to investigate the origin of the bomb threats and lay the appropriate charges, where required.”
Students and staff at Highview Elementary School have been cleared to reenter the building.
Those at Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School remained on school property.
People at Saltfleet District High School left the building to go to nearby evacuations sites Gatestone Elementary School and Mount Albion Elementary School, which was also threatened. Students and staff are now safe to reenter the elementary school.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our top priority,” a spokesperson for HWDSB told CHCH News.
“We take every threat of violence against a school community seriously and have supports in place for student and staff well-being.”
The board says families can expect more information soon.
It is not yet clear whether the potential bomb threats are connected or isolated incidents.
Monday marks the third school day in a row that a potential bomb threat was made toward Nora Frances Henderson Secondary School.
