4 charged in stolen vehicle case that caused heavy traffic on Oakville QEW

First Published:

Four people are facing multiple charges following a stolen vehicle investigation that caused major delays on the QEW in Oakville early Tuesday morning.

Halton police say they responded to the South Oakville Chrysler dealership around 4:20 a.m. when a group of people were seen attempting to steal a blue Dodge Ram.

The suspects also arrived in a black Dodge Ram that was later determined to have been stolen Monday in Mississauga, investigators say.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away from the area. It eventually lost control and hit a guardrail on the westbound QEW near Bronte Road, causing heavy traffic on the highways. All westbound lanes, except for the HOV lane, were shut down from Bronte Road to Burloak Drive.

Police arrested the three people in the vehicle at that time.

Thirty-year-old Jennifer Singh of Toronto, 31-year-old Aashish Sharma of Mississauga and 37-year-old Rajpal Sran are each facing several offences, including theft of a motor vehicle.

Paramedics transported all of them to hospital with minor injuries.

Ten minutes later, officers found out that the fourth suspect was still at the car dealership.

Himanshu Yadav, 25, of Etobicoke was then arrested and charged with nine separate offences, including theft of motor vehicle and possession of break-in instruments.

All four suspects were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216.
