3 killed, Niagara transit driver injured in head-on collision in Welland

The OPP are investigating a fatal crash in Welland involving a Niagara transit bus that killed three people and seriously injured the bus driver Saturday evening.

The OPP, Welland Fire Department, Niagara EMS and Ornge air ambulance responded to a head-on collision on Highway 58 between Kleiner Street and Forks Road East around 10:20 p.m.

Investigations determined that the pickup truck collided head-on with the transit bus, rolled over and burst into flames.

According to police the driver of the truck and its two passengers inside were pronounced deceased on the scene and the bus driver was air-lifted to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

Two passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash. One was taken to hospital with serious injuries and the other was released at the scene.

Highway 58 was closed for the investigation between Kleiner Street and Forks Road East.

The OPP are asking anyone with information on this crash to contact the Highway Safety Division in Burlington.
