3 arrested in connection with attempted car theft in Milton

Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted car theft in Milton on Saturday.

Halton police say that a Halton resident who was driving home from Toronto noticed a vehicle following them.

When they parked in the driveway, the suspects exited the vehicles with masks on and approached the individual’s vehicle.

Officers say that after they realized the individual was on the phone, they fled.

At that time, the individual was on the phone with police who were able to respond and locate the suspect vehicle nearby.

The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested and a subsequent search led to officers discovering a Winchester air pistol under the driver’s seat.

Vineet Chopra, 20, of Toronto, Gurpreet Singh Sasn, 24, of Scarborough and Mandeep Singh, 19, of Cambridge have each been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft of a motor vehicle and disguise with intent.

Officers are reminding the public to stay vigilant while driving and pay particular attention to any vehicles that may be following them.

Should a vehicle appear to be following them, the driver is advised to call 911 immediately, provide a detailed description of the suspect vehicle, including the license plate if possible and follow all further directions provided by police.
