Lane restrictions are currently in effect on Highway 6 Flamborough as emergency responders investigate a “suspicious” overnight structure fire in the area.

Hamilton police say that they received reports of a structure fire in the area of Highway 6 between Concession 6 E and Concession 6 W around 11:30 Sunday night.

Emergency crews arrived to an empty barn engulfed in flames until the early hours of Monday morning.

Due to the lack of fire hydrants in the area, water was trucked in to fight the fire.

The barn was vacant at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported.

The property the fire occurred on is currently listed for sale. Damages are estimated to be valued at $200,000.

Highway 6 was closed in both directions as crews continued to battle the flames, however at this time only one lane remains closed near Concession 6 Rd. East.

Crews remain on scene to monitor the scene for any flare-ups that may occur.

Police say an investigation for suspicious activity into the start of the fire is underway and includes the Ontario Fire Marshal and the police arson unit.
