Hamilton fire crews are actively working to contain a multiple alarm fire that is burning at a high-rise on the Mountain.

The call came in just before 10:30 a.m. about a fire at a high-rise apartment building located at 270 Mohawk Rd. East.

Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the building and the call was updated to a multiple alarm in order to bring crews to the scene from across the city.

Two people were reportedly rescued from the fire and taken to hospital.

Reports say a city bus has been brought to the location to keep people warm (Photo Courtesy of Michael Lanteigne).

The Hamilton Fire Department says the fire is under control and crews are overhauling the scene. Mohawk Rd. East is closed in both directions.
