Film critic Bonnie Laufer is back with what’s new in theatres and streaming.
’13 The Musical’ is a musical on Netflix that is based on the hit Broadway musical ’13’, starring Ariana Grande. The movie is based around a 12-year-old boy who moved from New York City to Indiana. As he navigates his parents divorce, he also has to decide who is going to invite to his Bar Mitzvah. The movie stars Eli Golden, Debra Messing, Josh Peck and Rhea Pearlman. It was shot in and around Toronto and is out on Netflix now.
‘Keep Breathing’ is a Netflix survival thriller. It stars Melissa Barrera, who plays a lawyer whose plane crashes in the wilderness. She is the lone survivor and has to battle the elements and her personal demons to stay alive. It was shot in the Canadian Wilderness in British Columbia and is on Netflix now.
Bonnie talked to Melissa about the survival skills she learned from filming and she said she learned how to make a compass and stay in a place that’s visible. She hopes that people will watch the series and take away the survival skills she learned.
‘My Old School’ is a bizarre documentary about a boy in Scotland named Brandon Lee. Alan Cumming stars as Brandon, and was written and directed by Jono McLeod.
