2 arrests made following armed carjacking in Brampton

Peel Regional Police have arrested and charged two people after recovering stolen vehicles and a firearm in connection with an armed carjacking in Brampton.
Investigators say that the female victim parked her 2020 Mercedes Benz C300 vehicle in the driveway of her home in the area of Heritage Rd. and Embleton Rd. around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
That was when the accused approached her, brandishing a firearm and demanding the keys. Fearing for her safety, the victim complied and the suspects fled in the vehicle.
A second stolen vehicle, a 2022 Lexus RX35 that was used to facilitate the robbery, also fled the scene.

Officers were able to locate both vehicles near Wheatland Court and Loonlake Ave. in Mississauga. As police approached, the Lexus was abandoned while both accused fled in the stolen Mercedes that was later found in the area of Yonge St. and Sheppard Ave. in Toronto where both were arrested.
During the arrest, both stolen vehicles were recovered along with a nine millimeter firearm with ammunition and an imitation gun.
Nineteen-year-old Tawayne Beckford of Toronto faces seven charges including robbery with a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
A 16-year-old male from Brampton additionally faces eight charges, including robbery with a firearm and failure to comply with court order.

At the time of his arrest, the 16-year-old suspect was bound by two judicial release orders from previous charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Discharge Firearm in Peel Region.
A second release order was also in effect from previous charges of Robbery, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Possession of Stolen Property, Occupant of Motor Vehicle with Knowledge of Firearm, and Knowledge of a Prohibited Weapon.
In both release orders, he was under house arrest conditions and was prohibited from possessing weapons.
This investigation remains ongoing, and police anticipate additional charges will be added.
