16-year-old charged in Brantford high school weapons incident

Police have charged a 16-year-old boy in Brantford in connection with a weapon-related incident that happened at an area high school last week.

Brantford police responded to North Park Collegiate Vocational School on Mar. 2 when they received reports of a youth uttering verbal threats inside the school, indicating he had a gun on him.

Officers quickly located the accused and took him into custody when they got to the school. He was not found to be in possession of any weapons.

The 16-year-old youth is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, no further information about the accused will be released.

Police say no one received any physical injuries as a result of the incident.

After the incident, officers met with students and staff who were directly involved to answer questions and provide information about what had happened.

Brantford police says gun related violence is a serious issue for many communities and threats of this nature can have tragic consequences.
