14-year-old working dream job at Oakville barbershop

He may only be 14-years-old, but that hasn’t stopped Milan Sosic from chasing his dreams of being a barber.

The career path sparked his interest after taking a free course at Top Tier Company back in 2021, a barbershop located at 143 Kerr St. in Oakville.

Sosic said he bought himself a pair of clippers with his birthday money and started cutting hair from home.

Co-owner Luigi Melegrito said he saw the youngster’s potential after seeing him on social media and hired Sosic in January.

“I loved the fact that he was 12-years-old and he was driven to take an interest in barbering,” Melegrito said.

“And then six, seven months ago, he started posting a bunch of Tiktoks and we saw his haircuts and we’re like, ‘wow is this the same kid that was 12 years old?'”

Sosic is the youngest in the shop, but Melegrito says he fits right in among the other employees who are all in their twenties.

Melegrito said Sosic has brought in tons of new clients since he began working at Top Tier and is always fully booked.

Despite having to juggle a job, school and soccer, Sosic says its fun doing what he’s passionate about

“I don’t even feel like I’m working. I’m just having fun at the shop. Just cutting hair, cutting my friend’s hair, my family. It’s just really good,” he said.

Sosic said he’s thankful for the opportunity and hopes to one day open a shop of his own.
