1 person seriously injured in ‘violent’ break-in at Grimsby home

One person has been arrested following a “violent” break-in at a home in Grimsby overnight that sent one victim to hospital with serious injuries.
Const. Philip Gavin of Niagara police says that the break-in occurred in the area of Main Street East and Robinson Street North around 2:54 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from serious injuries believed to have been caused by a blunt weapon. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Initial investigation determined that the unknown suspects had broken into the victim’s home and assaulted before the victim was able to free himself and get help.
With the help of the region’s K-9 unit, detectives were able to locate one of the suspects near Sandra Crescent.
Nicholas Gerard St. Louis, 28, of Etobicoke is now facing charges of break and commit robbery, forcible confinement, assault causing bodily harm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing later Wednesday.
Detectives believe the incident to have been targeted and say there is no threat to public safety.
