1 dead, 3 hospitalized after crash on Burlington QEW off-ramp

One person is dead after a driver who fled from police ended up in the fatal crash in Burlington early Monday morning, resulting in a significant closure to the QEW.
Ontario’s top police watchdog has now taken over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
It was around 4 a.m. when the driver of a pickup truck lost control and flipped over on the Brant Street off-ramp from the QEW.
Just 15 minutes earlier, that truck was stopped by Halton police for speeding at the QEW and Guelph Line, but fled the scene.

Four people were in the truck, including a 26-year-old male passenger who died as a result of the collision and a 27-year-old man who remains in critical condition.
The truck was removed from the scene just after noon and the on-ramp was re-opened. The Special Investigations Unit is currently handling the investigation due to the interaction with Halton police prior to the incident.
The SIU is called in to investigate any incident between police and member of the public that results in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
At this time, police have not confirmed where any of the individuals involved in the incident are from.
