A 22-year old from Burlington has just opened up her second Pita Pit location. Ashley Morgan opened up her first franchise last March in Stoney Creek — three months before she graduated from Western University.
Her newest location is at Dundas and Walkers Line and is only one day old. Pita Pete gives Ashley Morgan and her employee a high five for a job well done. Within one year the 22-year old has opened two Pita Pits. She says its all because of her drive: “I’ve had this dream since I was in high school — I’ve always wanted to own my own business — this opportunity came about and I went for it.”
Morgan is aware that she stands out — being so young and owning two businesses: “I realize some of my employees are younger some are older but that doesn’t matter to me and it doesn’t matter to them.”
Leah Pallace is an employee: “It’s absolutely inspiring for me — she only a few years older. It makes me think of all the good things I can do in two years.”
Morgan’s family owns a Pita Pit franchise in Hamilton. She used to work there in high school. That’s when she got the idea she wants to own her own one day. But she says she’s most proud of stimulating the local economy and providing jobs for young people just like her: “There is a high school right behind us, all the kids are coming to apply for jobs — their first jobs and we’ve hired a few of them from the school so its awesome.”
A customer noted: “Our youth being successful in the community, I will definitely make a point to come back here not only because it’s Pita Pit but to support her — to make sure she’s a success.”
The young business owner admits her own journey has had some rough patches, but says its been worth it. She has some simple advice for young aspiring entrepreneurs: “Don’t question it, just got for it, don’t wait.”
Opening a franchise can cost more than $200,000 — but that price can vary based on location, square footage, etc. A potential owner must put down 25% cash and the rest can be financed. Morgan opened up her first location in Stoney Creek while she was still in university. She had her own money saved but also had assistance from her parents. And her future goals are to open up two more stores.
