SteelTown Stair Climb

It’s a challenge that will leave you short of breath.
About 100 people took part in the third annual SteelTown Climb to raise money for lung research at local institutions such as McMaster University.
They tackled the steps of 100 King St. W. – 24 floors in total – on a mission to raise awareness about lung disease.
Two renowned stair climbers from Mexico came all the way to Hamilton to race to the top.
One man who walked every step of the way was 93-year-old Walter Decker.
He’s an avid stair climber who has climbed the CN Tower multiple times.
Decker made it to the top in approximately 13 minutes.
Firefighters from departments across the region also participated. Some carried 60 lbs of equipment.
According to the Lung Association, more than 26,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with lung disease this year.
This year’s Steeltown Climb raised nearly $15,000 dollars for lung research in Hamilton. There’s still time to donate. You can do so on the Lung Association’s website.
