It’s getting to be the time of year where we think of the less fortunate, so today Halton Police got busy kicking off their annual toy drive.

This is the 15th year of the Toys For Tots program, which will be raising funds and collecting gifts for kids in need. Members of the Minor Oaks Hockey Association were on hand as well as wrestling great Tiger Jeet Singh and his son to kick off the campaign that partners with Canadian Tire.

Chief Steve Tanner says today’s launch was all about getting into the spirit of the holidays and helping others. “This is about awareness; it’s about getting the message out to the community that kids in Halton are in need.”

“We need the community’s help, the help of every citizen to raise money to buy toys and make sure that every child has a good Christmas.”

This year the drive is looking to top last year’s sum of $96,000. Anyone who wishes to make a donation can drop off cash, cheques or toys to any Halton Police station.
