Boat fire on Lake Ontario

Hamilton Police Service Marine Unit rescued three people after their boat caught on fire off the shore of lake Ontario.

Police saythey received a call from a boater in distress shortly after 4:45 pm Thursday, after a boat caught fire approximately 1.5 km north of Van Wagners beach.

The three occupants of the boat were forced to evacuate.

Police located two men and one woman floating near the boat, which was fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived on the scene.

They were safely recovered and transported back to shore where they were attended by police, EMS and the Hamilton Fire Department.

All three were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
